JAMES WHEELER

Hi, I'm James and I'm a stop-motion animator and model maker, currently concluding studies at UWE. I enjoy the magic that can be created when a character that shouldn’t be able to exist is brought to life through animation. I produce animations featuring any material I can find and enjoy the satisfaction of seeing audiences react to those objects being brought to life in stop-motion. I am equally happy with solo production, or collaborations.

Maquette created for Degree Show Pokemon card

I was asked to create a design for a Pokemon card, featuring my university technician that we ended up auctioning off at an event we ran to raise money for our Degree show. I decided to create a maquette for my Pokemon cards design, as I wanted to feature my own style in the design.

Maquette produced for puppet I ended up fabricating

During my university project I made the decision to fabricate my own puppet, because I discovered that the puppets I was using to animate were restrictive in their movements. I enjoyed the sculpting process when producing my maquette, as I was able to feature my own style in the design.

Monster created for Aardman Academy Course

A monster puppet I produced during my time on the Aardman Academy Model-Making Foundation Course. I made this model after learning how to create an armature using wire and kitchen foil. After creating the puppet, I then proceeded to animate it.

Props produced for Meal Deal film

Some props I helped to create for the film Meal Deal created by Amy Mulcahy, Niamh McArdle and Anais Kheir. I enjoyed being involved with projects including this one and panopticon, a film by Martina Klanova, as I enjoyed helping to bring the film’s to life and it was also good industry experience.
